How to prepare walls for microcement application?

Many customers call us asking how to properly prepare walls for microcement. In general, the walls on which the microcement is to be laid should be prepared as for painting. That is, they should be even, plastered and smoothed. The microcement is a decorative layer, not a repair mortar, it is not used to fill cavities or level walls. It is only 2-3 mm thick.

Also note that the wall must be dry. Moisture from the wall can cause the microcement and / or varnish to burn off.

Can the microcement be applied to plasterboards?

Yes, just remember about priming.

Can microcement be applied to walls painted with paint?

Yes, as long as the paint is sticking well and you remember about priming.

Can the microcement be applied to a wall with tiles?

Yes. Before applying the microcement on the tiles, they should be roughened with a grinder, the joints should be filled with tile adhesive or other mortar, and then a bonding bridge with a glass fiber mesh should be placed. Only then can the microcement be placed. Thanks to such treatments, the microcement will stick well to the substrate and the joints will not be punctured.

Can the microcement be applied to the wall in the shower?

Yes. When using microcement in wet zones, always use a system waterproofing. The walls should be prepared as for tiles.

Can the microcement be applied to the walls outdoor?

Yes, just remember to adhere to the application temperature indicated in the technical data sheet and to use a microcement kit for outdoor use with a suitable solvent-based sealer.

Can the microcement be applied to a “bare wall” – unplastered blocks or bricks?

NO. As we wrote in the introduction, the microcement is only a finishing layer that is applied in several thin layers, so it is not put directly on blocks or bricks without plastering.
