What to do when your wife designs the interior and you are given a mission to make a microcement floor and you are all alone on the battlefield? There is nothing else than entering “microcement training course” on the Internet. You fire up the first Google search result, your read articles, technical sheets, you join a support group on FB, watch instructional videos on YouTube, go to training and you already know that you can do it!
This was the story of Krystian, whose photo of a microcement floor was awarded in our Festfloor Best Photos Awards last December. Today we present more pictures of his beautiful house.
A beginner makes 70 m2 of microcement floors (with great success!)
Krystian made over 70m2 of microcement floors and stairs in a newly built house near Poznań, Poland. He chose Festfloor GO! in the FF7035 color, which he finished with the matte sealer included in the kit. Before starting the application of the microcement, he prepared the substrate using the surface reinforcement set including FESTKontakt and the glass fiber mesh. It is the safest way for screeds in new buildings and for underfloor heating. Thanks to such preparation of the substrate, we will avoid unpleasant surprises, for example from the side of the screed cracking underneath or thermal stresses (Read more about substrate preparation).
The same flooring throughout the house
Krystian’s wife is professional interior designer and it can be seen at every step. Their house is pampered and harmonious. Minimalistic, but cozy at the same time. A light concrete floor covers the entire ground floor of the house – a living room with an open kitchen, a corridor and a bathroom. The same floor throughout the house is an extremely elegant and comfortable solution. It creates a clean, continuous appearance. Microcement is an excellent choice here as it can be used both in wet areas and in the living room or on stairs. Its great advantage is certainly its resistance to various types of damage – it will survive both children’s games and pets. Aesthetics should not be ignored either. A uniform floor in all rooms will visually enlarge the space and also allows you to change the interior arrangement without the risk of mismatch (it is simply universal and timeless). The same floor in all rooms also makes the task easier for the designer and contractor. Let us explain: coordinating different flooring options throughout your home to make your space feel a continuous work of art requires particular attention. In the case of joining various materials on the floor (especially in open spaces), the lines that connect the flooring materials should be carefully laid out and run in accordance with the architectural boundaries (e.g. along the extension of walls, in the axis of the opening or pillars, under the door leaf) ). Only then will we avoid the impression of a mess. For this, the joining of materials must be aesthetically pleasing and must be flush with each other, which sometimes requires the use of various self-leveling screeds, which can significantly delay the completion of flooring works.
A microcement floor as a base
The light-gray floor and white walls are the basis for stronger design elements: black kitchen cabinets, furniture with metal legs and an original metal stair railing. Projects, such as the one made by Krystian, make us most happy because they show that with proper preparation and after a few days of diligent work, even an amateur is able to conjure up the floor of his dreams from our product.
