Concrete living room decor ideas: microcement and decorative concrete
Decorative concrete makes a sensation among architects and interior designers who increasingly use it as finishing material in their projects.
We’ve already proposed lots of inspirations in using decorative concrete to finish the kitchen – we proposed, among others, concrete countertops and wall cladding – bedroom and bathroom. Now it is time to present some concrete living room decor ideas.
Decorative concrete is characterized by irregular placement of aggregate and diversified porosity. Each concrete element is unique and in its structure you can notice delicate discoloration and streaks, emphasizing its noble form.
Many people, however, have concerns about the use of concrete in their homes. On the one hand, they dream of a designer and modern interior, on the other hand, they fear that the use of architectural concrete on large surfaces in small spaces can be risky. And rightly so. It is true that with less space, it is better to choose one or two concrete elements and finish the rest with other materials such as wood or traditional tiles. Otherwise it is easy to exaggerate, distort the proportions and optically reduce the space.
It is also a great solution to add in interior concrete accessories and furniture. Nowadays it is really easy to find many beautiful and stylish items made of this material in online shops. These is either furniture made of cast concrete or only covered with a thin layer of microcement. The great advantage of the concrete-covered furniture in relation to these castings is their lightness. They are usually made of MDF or OSB and then covered with a few millimeters of microcement. Furniture made of architectural concrete is virtually indestructible, with high scratch resistance and abrasion resistance. It’s also easy to keep clean – just a gentle detergent or even water itself.
